Korean Buncheong ware, is thrown in two sections, it’s comprised of a mixture of dark clay and porcelain clay. This gives a slightly lighter body to a thrown pot, but also allows the application of copper based celadon glazes and brushed on copper oxides which are very volatile in the kiln creating beautiful green spots and drips of glazed ornament, created by the chemical reactions in the firing process.

Dimensions: H 51.5cm x D 19cm

About the artist:

A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Ian’s work explores a range of ideas using characters from mythology and literary sources. All work is thrown on the electric or kickwheel and is then carved or painted directly under and sometimes over the glaze, or left as bisque. His approach applies lustres and other glazes such as ash at lower temperatures.
