A RARE PENNSYLVANIAN HICKORY AND MAPLE 'WINDSOR' COMB-BACK CHAIR

A RARE PENNSYLVANIAN HICKORY AND MAPLE 'WINDSOR' COMB-BACK CHAIR

2,500.00

Pennsylvania, circa 1760

Of Classic comb-back design with shield shaped saddle seat of wonderful color, grain and patination and unusual serpentine arm supports. This is an iconic collectable, aside from that one can only say - that it's just a really beautiful chair.

Comparative literature:
Mentioned in 'The Windsor Chair' by Thomas H. Ormsbee, p46 illustration 5, quote 'Clearly of Pennsylvanian provenance, this chair which dates about 1760 has serpentine arm supports instead of the more usual baluster-turned outer spindles. The continuous arm is thicker due to the applied cresting through which pass the seven plain spindles of the slightly flaring back'.
